2018: A Year in Pictures

Transcript

This video displays a series of videos taken over the course of 2018.

The pictures transition from one to another playing to the beat of the music.

The screen fades to our first picture – a group of students huddled together during midyear move-in on the Brandeis campus. On screen text reads: “Midyear move-in day”.

The screen fades to a different close-up shot of a student carrying boxes from the trunk of his car up to his residence hall with a friend.

Next, there is a new picture with on-screen text reading: “Marcelle Soares-Santos – Detected Gravitational Waves”. The picture shows Marcelle Soares-Santos with a background of a starry galaxy.

There is a slide transition to a group audience as well as a featured speaker on a large projector. The on-screen text reads: “‘Deis Impact”.

The screen transitions to a new photo of President Ron Liebowitz and Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy celebrating an honorary award that the city of Waltham is the best place to live in Massachusetts. We see a banner behind them as they join together to take a picture in front of it. The on-screen text reads: “Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy celebrates with President Ron
Liebowitz”.

The screen transitions to our next picture which shows smiling faces from President Ron Liebowitz along side Vanita Gupta who has recently received an award. The on-screen text reads: “Richman Fellow – Vanita Gupta”. Following this picture, we see Vanita speaking on stage.

The screen transitions to a group of students on campus having fun in the snow. The screen quickly transitions to Emily Bryson running on an indoor track. The on-screen text reads: “Emily Bryson ’19 – Wins NCAA Championship”.
We transition to a series of fencing shots.

They are followed by very brief shots of students and faculty in the classroom.

The screen transitions to students on stage in the play “Into the Woods”. The on-screen text reads “Into the Woods”.

The screen transitions to two quick shots of students learning in the classroom. The screen transitions to Michael Rosbash throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park. The on-screen text reads: “Nobel Laureate Michael Rosbash throws first pitch”.

The screen transitions to different students performing in the Festival of the Arts. The on- screen text reads: “Festival of the Arts”.

The screen fades to a group of girls dancing on a stage. The on-screen text reads: KAOS Kids”.

The screen fades to a different picture of students dancing on stage, as well as a photo of a different performance group at the same event. The on-screen text reads: “culture x”.

The screen transitions to a student walking on campus enjoying some cotton candy as well as a student playing the violin.

The screen transitions to a split-screen of two the new Deans at Brandeis. On the left there is a picture and read on-screen text: “Kathryn Graddy – Named Dean of IBS”. On the right of the screen on-screen text reads: Dorothy Hodgson – Named Dead of Arts and Sciences.”

The screen transitions to a series of photos from Commencement 2018.
As we see a photo of Chava Alberstein persorm on stage, the on-screen text reads: “Chava Alberstein at commencement”.

The screen transitions as we see on-screen text of: “Freeman A. Hrabowski III – Commencement Speaker,” as he reads from the podium.

The screen transitions to a teacher conducting a study in the classroom.

Next, we see a recent graduate in cap and gown hugging a griend.

The screen fast forwards to Alumni Weekend. We see Ollie the owl with family and friends, as well as alumni friends reconnecting at the event. The on-screen text reads: “Alumni Weekend,” as students surround the Ollie mascot.
Alumni Weekend continues as we see Tony Goldwyn -’84 – on stage as well as Anita Hill. On- screen text reads: “Tony Goldwyn -’84 - Anita Hill – University Professor”.

The screen transitions to a quick glimpse into the Rosa art museum. On-screen text reads: "Rose Art Exhibition”.

The screen transitions to a series of photos from the Sci-Fest, which is followed by the Torah Dedication.

The screen transitions to a variety of pictures highlighting the new residence hall, Skyline, both interior and exterior.

The screen transitions to a group shot of students taking a selfie photo with Jamele Adams.

The screen transitions to a group of students helping new students move in on move-in day.

The screen transitions as on-screen text reads: “Convocation” as we see President Ron Liebowitz speak from a podium in front of the Chapels to students.

The screen transitions to the new students listening to Ron, while sitting in the grass, followed by the new students once again holding up candles under The Light of Reason. On-screen text reads: “Light the Night”.

We see some very quick shots of students on campus. This quickly transitions to a student in a classroom.

Next, the screen transitions to on-screen text which reads “Break the Fast”. We also see this event from outside and the tent where it was being held as well as a group of students enjoying bagels and lox.

The screen transitions to on-screen text reading: “Beverly Daniel Tatum – Wins Gittler Prize” as she speaks from a microphone on stage.

Next, we transition to on-screen text that reads: “Leonard Bernstein Exhibit” where we see guests and students admiring the exhibit.

The screen transitions to on-screen text reading: “Civic Discourse – Cornel West / Robert George”.

The screen transitions to a performance in the theatre. The on-screen text reads: “Dream a Little Dream”.

The screen transitions to on-screen text reading: “Introducing the Framework to Our Future” while President Ron Liebowitz speaks to an audience at the podium.

The screen transitions to a performer while the on-screen text reads: “Music Unites Us”.

There are two more close-up shots of students performing in the orchestra. The last shot of this video is another shot of the “Messiah Sing” event taken from outside the building.
