Instructions for Completing CITI Program Online Training for Biosafety

If you have already completed training through the CITI Program at another institution, please log into your account and affiliate yourself with Brandeis University so your training records can be transferred. Brandeis University accepts training that has been taken within the past three years.

Completing the online training with CITI is easy and convenient. Please follow the directions below for completing your registration and enrollment for research compliance training.

  1. Direct your web browser to www.citiprogram.org.

  2. On the home page, click the "Register" button.

  3. Under "Select Your Organization Affiliation," type "Brandeis University." Agree to the terms of service and the privacy policy. Affirm that you are an affiliate of Brandeis University. Select the "Continue to Create Your CITI Program Username/Password."

  4. Enter your name and email address. It is important that you use your real name and Brandeis email address so that we can give you proper credit for the courses you complete. Click "Continue to Step 3."

  5. Select a username, password and security question following the directions. Click "Continue to Step 4."

  6. Enter your country of residence in the field provided. Click "Continue to Step 5."

  7. Select if you would like to buy CEU credits (the answer will likely be "No"). If you select "Yes," you will need to pay $80/credit. Also notify CITI if you would like to be contacted regarding participation in research surveys and marketing information. Click "Continue to Step 6."

  8. Complete all required fields (institutional email address, department, role in research). The CITI Program also asks about your gender, education level, address, etc. You may choose what information you would like to disclose, if any. Click "Continue to Step 7."

  9. On the next page is a series of questions to determine your enrollment in coursework. Follow the directions below as they pertain to you:

    • Question 1: Select "Responsible Conduct of Research" if you are a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar.

    • Question 2: Do not select anything.

    • Question 3: Do not select anything.

    • Question 4: Do not select anything.

    • Question 5: Select "Basic Introduction to Biosafety" and all other courses that apply to your research focus.

    • Question 6: Do not select anything.

    • Question 7: Do not select anything.

  10. Click "Complete Registration."
  11. You will be taken to a page that welcomes you to the CITI Program. Select "Finalize Registration."

  12. On the next page, you will see a list of the training modules you will need to complete. Inside each module is a selection of lessons. Read the material and then take the quiz at the end of each lesson. Once all lessons in a module have been completed with a passing score (85% or higher), the module will be marked "Completed," and a report will be automatically sent to the Office of Research Administration. You must complete all of the modules and lessons in order for your online training to be complete.

  13. The CITI training website will keep track of the lessons and modules that you have successfully completed, so you can sign in and out as often as you would like.
