Ryan LaRochelle received his bachelor's degree in political science and history from Saint Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont. He graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, with departmental honors in political science.
Ryan is currently pursuing a PhD in the Politics Department. His teaching and research interests include poverty, inequality and social policy; civic and political engagement; and American political development. His dissertation analyzes the Community Action Program, the cornerstone of Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty. The project utilizes archival data and interviews at contemporary community action agencies to examine how low-income individuals' experiences with public policies affect their propensity for political action.
