Changes in the Office of the Arts

Aug. 1, 2019

Dear Brandeis Community,

We are pleased to announce some changes in the Office of the Arts. To ensure even greater connectivity with the Division of Creative Arts in the School of Arts and Sciences, we have moved the reporting of the positions in this office from the Provost’s Office to the Division of Creative Arts. This move will more closely align our creative programming and outreach activities with our academic mission and student life, and enable our award-winning creative arts faculty to be more closely involved with such work. The unit “Office of the Arts” will no longer exist, instead, Ingrid Schorr will become the Director of Arts Engagement within the Division of Creative Arts. She and her staff will manage events such as the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts and JustArts (the biannual faculty/staff show), as well as oversee the publication State of the Arts and a new periodic e-newsletter. She will also assist creative arts faculty in identifying grant opportunities and drafting proposals for their own creative work. Finally, she will continue to find ways to better integrate the arts into the life of the entire Brandeis community including inspiring, advocating for, and supporting student engagement in the arts.

We believe this new organizational structure will further enhance our commitment to cultivate the performing, visual, and cultural arts at Brandeis University as an essential component of a liberal arts education and research study.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. Lynch, Provost

and

Dorothy Hodgson, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences
