Sad News: Jake Sibley '20

Aug. 14, 2019

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

I am deeply saddened to inform you of the death of a member of the Brandeis University family, undergraduate Jake Sibley ’20. His family has shared with us the sad news that Jake took his life on the morning of August 12, 2019. Our community offers our deepest condolences to Jake’s family, friends and loved ones.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 17 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Red Mountain Institute Building in Mesa, Arizona. The family will be receiving visitors at 10 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Rosie’s House: A Music Academy for Children or to The Trevor Project. A campus memorial gathering will be planned for the Fall semester.

During this time of sadness, we are reminded of the importance of community. Losing a fellow student and a member of our university can be very difficult. Please take care of yourself, your friends and your family. We encourage you to reach out to the support services offered on campus, including the Brandeis Counseling Center (781-736-3730) and the Center for Spiritual Life (781-736-3570). The Brandeis Counseling Center will be open until 5 p.m. today to offer support to those on campus.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. Lynch
