[Bonjour, je m'appelle Hollie Harder. Bienvenue en Français 10. Hello, my name is Holly harder. Welcome to French 10. This is a video to describe what you will learn and accomplish in this first semester French language and culture course at Brandeis University.

This is a course for beginners, with no previous experience with the French language. If you have any questions about placement, please feel free to contact me at harder H A R D E R @brandeis.edu. In this class, you will develop communication skills in French and understand some basic aspects of French and Francophone cultures.  By the end of the class, you will be able to communicate effectively with French speakers in simple everyday situations using appropriate gestures and showing awareness of culturally suitable language and behavior.

At the end of French 10, you will also be able to describe yourself, your friends and your family.  You will be able to talk about your likes and your dislikes, where you live and travel, where you work and study, your leisure activities and your daily routine in both past and present tenses. You will be able to function in everyday situations such as buying food and clothing and ordering meals in a restaurant. And you will expand your awareness of French speaking countries their customs and traditions as well as their emblematic products such as food, clothing, specialty items architecture and art.

This course is part of the Brandeis core curriculum part of the global engagement and world languages and cultures requirement. The class not only helps you begin to develop French language skills so that you can express yourself clearly and effectively. But it also helps you to begin recognizing social and cultural similarities and differences between your home country and the French speaking world.
