Inside Brandeis' independent newspaper: Meet Anna Martin ’26

Descriptive Transcript

The video begins with a couple of shots from students working at The Justice student newspaper office at Brandeis. There is a happy song. “One of the things I love the most about The Justice is I feel like I’m giving back to the community in an interesting way. When you see the papers around campus, when I put them down and then I see someone go and pick it up and start reading a story I wrote, it feels like I’m a part of a larger Brandeis community. I’m Anna Martin. I’m class of 2026, and I’m an independent, interdisciplinary major in journalism and media studies with minors in legal studies and psychology.”

We see shots of Anna walking around The Justice office, she continues: “This is The Justice office in the Shapiro Campus Center. I’m the Editor in Chief of The Justice this year, which is very exciting. We’re the independent student newspaper of Brandeis that’s been around for 75 years and we cover both campus and Waltham news. So it’s been a great way for me to get involved and learn about what’s happening around me and work with our incredible team of about 30 editors. I love journalism, I’m kind of a journalism nerd, but I think it’s really cool to have the opportunity to share with people what’s happening on campus, because a lot of times students don’t have access to things like faculty meetings or events that they can’t make. But this allows them to learn about what’s going on and be really informed about what’s happening in our community.”

The music fades down and we cut to a number of shots of the Brandeis campus, we hear a new song play in the background and Anna says; “This club is one of the larger clubs on campus, which is really exciting because there’s a constant rotation of new people and familiar faces, and it’s a great opportunity to meet people. And we have weekly meetings, but also it lets you go out into the community and try things I think joining a club is a great way to try something new and take a risk that you may not be able to take otherwise but doing things like joining a club that you never considered joining before, allowing you to try a new profession or try something else out. I was not a journalism major when I came to Brandeis, and because I joined this club, I was inspired to explore the options and join the program.”

We see a couple of shots of Anna and we also see a number of shots of Brandeis students doing different things on campus. Anna says: “I love the people at Brandeis. I’ve had some really amazing opportunities here, but I think the thing that makes it really stand out to me is the types of people that I’ve gotten to work with and meet, and I think they really inspire me to keep doing what I’m doing. I think you should come to Brandeis because there’s no community like this one. At least that I found. Every student here does a million different things and a million different areas, and meets all kinds of people from all over the world with different passions and interests. And I think it’s a great opportunity to sort of branch out and try something new.

As Anna finishes talking, the music comes to an end and we see the Brandeis logo come in. The video ends.
