Astronomy Club: Exploring the Stars

Descriptive Transcript

You see the night sky illuminated by thousands of stars. Rebecca Spinner, president of the Astronomy Club at Brandeis,
says,"When I look up there, I don't just see something in the sky. It's kind of like I’m zooming out. I see the whole solar
system, the whole universe. I see everything moving around each other. Just so fascinating to look up there and realize
how much is happening out there. It's incredible to just look up there and see all of that." You see solar systems and
galaxys glide by as Rebecca speaks. Aeryn Rowe, Co-President of the Astronomy club, says," When people come up here,
they too, feel like this sense of joy and wonder. It's our special space in a way, and that is in its own way, really
builds a sense of community." You see a starry, night sky and the title fades in. It reads "The Brandeis Astronomy Club,
Exploring the Stars"
Rebecca walks into the dome where the telescope is. She turns on a lamp and smiles as the light illuminates her face. Aeryn
rotates a wheel and the dome doors open. Rebecca says,"My name is Rebecca. I'm a sophomore at Brandeis University
and I am president of the Astronomy Club." Aeryn says,"My name is Aeryn Rowe. I'm also a sophomore like Rebecca.
The astronomy club is really a group of few dedicated e-board members." Rebecca and Aeryn look at some old schematics
in the Astronomy Club hangout area. Rebecca says,"There's not really anything required of the person to come here.
All the newcomer has to do is just come to the club, when I schedule a meeting. We've looked at a lunar eclipse
at 4 a.m. and 60 to 70 people came at 4 a.m. So it's also a way to just inform the Brandeis community of awesome
things that are happening out there." Rebeeca and Aeryn look at some model planets on a desk. Aeryn says,"I feel a lot of
joy when I get to be up in the dome and moving the telescope and knowing that when people come up here, they too feel like
this sense of joy and wonder." You see a silhouette of the telescope in the dome moving. Rebecca says,"If you've ever just
looked up at the sky and wondered what's out there or just wanted to look at the moon through a telescope
or wanted to learn more. That's already enough reason to join."
