Welcoming the class of 2027

Descriptive Transcript

The video begins with shots of people at a parking lot ready to welcome people in and register for move in day. We hear the voice of Jessica, a volunteer she says: “My name is Jessica Freedberg, I am a member of the orientation core committee and we are here to volunteering for move-in for the students of class 2027”. The music picks up and we see different shots of people driving towards the parking lot, and registering for move in.

We hear Jessica talking again and she says: “What I like about volunteering is that we’re really interfacing with the students and the new community that’s coming to Brandeis I mean, moving can be scary and exciting It’s my last year here, but it’s their first year here I’m ending my journey but being able to see new students come into Brandeis and be super excited to go into our community is really heartwarming and I know that, I am going to leave this place in really good hands and that the community is gonna to continue moving on, in a very positive light.”

As Jessica speaks we see shots of students talking and hanging out. We then transition to Jessica giving a speech at night, in front of the light of reason: “Ok Brandeis! Let’s lit up the night!”

We see shots of students moving into dorms and we hear a voice, and transition to an interview of a dad and his daugther. “Hi, I'm Kaushik Ghosh.I'm class of 1988, and I'm moving my daughter Rimil in to Renfield Hall. I'm feel excited to move into the dorm. I think I'm going to miss most about home is I really miss my dog.First of all, I have a dog and two cats at home and also just the feel of when I'm kind of upstairs and then I hear my parents coming in and then we just sit down on the bed and chat for a while.”

We see shots of students moving backpack and boxes into the dorms. The dad says: “I think I am going to miss most just the fact that you are not in the house. You know, she and I, we don't watch TV together. We have very different tastes but everything else we do together. So I'll miss you.”

We transition to another interview of two parents and their child. The father begins talking: “We’re here to drop off Theo our oldest kid. So it's our first time doing this, which is bittersweet. You know, we're proud of them and we're excited for them.” The camera cuts to a close up of the mother and she says: “I can't wait to see who they become, what it's like for them. I very much look back at my college years and some of the best times in my life. And I want that for them as well.”

We see shots of students hanging out and walking on campus and orientation leaders dancing. We hear the voice of a man, and see two parents, a mom, a dad and their two daughter. The father says: “I'm so excited to bring my daughter to Brandeis University and I think she's going to enjoy her studies here in Brandeis.” We cut to the daughter and she says: “For me, the hardest part today was saying goodbye to my other family members and going to say bye to them soon too.”

We hear the voice of Theo and cut to them, we hear them say: “I'm super excited, I’m also pretty nervous. Such a lovely campus is a feeling of familiarity to it. I'm really excited to be able to, like, choose my own courses and like, I just keep hearing so many amazing things about the school. So even though I'm like, it's very daunting to be living in a dorm away from home.”

We see shots of families helping their kids move in and we hear and cut to the Chuica family, the dad says: “I want to tell her just try to do the best that you can do in her studies because it's going to be her future.”

We hear Theo’s father talk to them, he says: “That you find happiness, friends satisfying, intellectual work, something that makes you feel good.” We then see shots of students smiling and waving at the camera. We cut to Theo’s mother and she tells them: “Allow yourself to be uncomfortable, definitely go out of their comfort zone, try things or join things. This is when you're going to become you. Take advantage of it...words of wisdom.”

The video transitions from the interview to the Brandeis Logo. The logo fades to a shot of the Brandeis statue as the music picks up. We see two screens of credits and the music fades and the video fades to black.
