Brandeis President Arthur Levine recently gave a campus lecture at Carnegie Mellon University, comparing the transformation currently underway in American higher education to the Industrial Revolution. Led by CMU President Farnam Jahanian, the event was part of CMU’s Deeper Conversations series. Levine detailed ideas he explores in his forthcoming book, “From Upheaval to Action: What Works in Changing Higher Ed,” including the shift to a global, digital knowledge economy and how that will change the definition of the “traditional” college student. The Brandeis Plan to Reinvent the Liberal Arts is incorporating many of these concepts.
