- Everyone at Brandeis wants to support you and help you. They want you to get these grants. They want you to do research. These sources are there for you. So Professor Ferry, for example, really inspired and motivated me to apply for the Jane's Travel Grant with the LALS department. Although many students apply, there's not a huge range and I applied. Although it was a lot of work to apply, I knew that I had the opportunity to get it because it's a source that's there for me and I should be taking advantage of it. - Yeah, I applied to Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship last year and got a fellowship. For my experience, I think the first thing is you need to look out for those funding opportunities as early as possible because the deadline could be tricky. And also as we just mentioned that approaching faculty is also-- like approaching the professors is also a very important point because the professors could help you with the research proposals. For me, my first version of research proposal is a little bit tedious and long and my professor taught me how to make the proposal short but precise. So what I did is at first, I was a little bit worried that my research topic is too narrow because it's about a very small city in China that probably no one in the U.S. has ever heard of. And I was a little bit worried that nobody was interested in that, and so what I did is that I contacted the person who's in charge, who's in the fellowship committee because I applied for the University Undergraduate Research, Research Fellowship. There's a committee reviewing all the applications. So I reached out to one of the person in the committee and I talked to her about, like about the topic of my research about how this is related to my life, my personal identity and how this research just intrigues me. And I love like how I wanted to do my research so that she could have at least sent me information about it. But what surprised me is that she's actually she's been to my hometown, that small thing. And she knows something that I talk about. So this really excites me. And yeah, I think reaching out to one member of the fellowship committee, reach out to somebody who's reviewing your application is very important before you submit the application of the funds or the fellowship. Yeah.
