Hello, my name is Natasha and I am an undergraduate student at Brandeis University. I'm here to introduce you to the Forager One System. This platform has been recently adopted by the university to help students like yourself find and connect with faculty conducting research that may interest you, as well as any stipends, reimbursements, and jobs that are related to research at Brandeis. To get started, navigate to foragerone.com in your web browser, click the login button, and then the Brandeis University logo. Sign in with your Brandeis University credentials and you will then be redirected to create your Forager One account in the system. Select the Sign Up for Student Account option, fill out the fields in the form, choose your primary major, and click Submit. To begin building your Forager One profile, hit the pencil icon and fill out the corresponding profile information, including your basic bio data and skills you would like to highlight. Feel free to add a profile picture to put a face to your profile. Click Save to save any changes. You can also add supplemental files such as your resume, transcript, or any other relevant documents to your profile that you may want faculty to see by hitting the Add File button. Continue building the rest of your profile by filling out the remaining sections in the Relevant Experiences section. Feel free to talk about past academic coursework, prior research, volunteer work, or even how you developed an interest in a particular field. If you have presentations, competitions, performances, or publications you would like to add to your profile, you can do so in the following sections. Filling out your profile thoroughly and completely will help provide the relevant information to faculty who you may be interested in connecting with and maximize your chances of finding a mentor. Navigate to the Search tab and click the Faculty option. Here, you will find a comprehensive database of faculty profiles at Brandeis. You can search using keywords and filter by department to find the right faculty mentor for you. There is also an option to see faculty who have indicated they are actively recruiting students at this time. Click on a faculty profile that you are interested in to read more information on their profile. Once you have found a faculty member you are potentially interested in working with, click the Bookmark button to save that faculty to your list of bookmarks. From the Bookmarks tab you can send a connection request to faculty you would like to reach out to so that you can request an opportunity to get involved in their research. Click the Compose Connection Request button to begin your request. As part of your connection request, you will need to write a tailored and specific interest statement to the faculty to highlight why you would like to work with that faculty member and highlight what interests you about their work. We recommend reading about the faculty member online as well as reviewing any publications or articles they have written so that you get a better understanding of their most recent work. You may want to incorporate that information directly into your interest statement. After writing your interest statement, select any files from your profile that you would like to include in your connection request to this particular faculty member. Click the Preview and Submit button in order to preview your request. Once you have reviewed the information hit the Submit button and your connection request will be sent to the faculty member along with the supplemental files you have selected. To view any connection requests you've submitted, navigate to the Connection Requests tab. Connection requests will show a status of Pending Response until the faculty member reviews your request and submits their decision. Faculty may take up to a week or longer before they submit their decision or respond to your application, though you can follow up with the faculty member by hitting the Message button. Be sure to check in on the Messages tab to see if any faculty have reached out to request additional information or to set up a time for an interview. Once a faculty member has submitted their decision, you will be able to view their decision and respond to their decision as to whether or not you will be joining their research group. To find stipends and reimbursements that you may be interested in applying to, navigate to the Stipends and Reimbursements option under the Search tab. You can search using keywords and filter by various criteria to figure out if a stipend or reimbursement is right for you: such as refining by division or department, grade or year, senior thesis stipends, and stipends for summer funding. You can currently filter to view all stipends and reimbursements, or specifically select those that are open to apply to. Click the See More Information button to learn more about a particular stipend or reimbursement. This will redirect you to another page where you will be able to find more information and apply to the stipend or reimbursement. To find research jobs that you may be interested in, navigate to the Jobs option under the Search tab. You may search using keywords, and click the See More Information button to learn more and apply to the position. This will redirect you to the Brandeis Workday site to apply directly to the position. Please note that all information moving forward related to your application for a job from that point on will be on the Brandeis Workday system, not Forager One. Finally, please check in on the Announcements tab periodically as you use Forager One to see any relevant research announcements at Brandeis. We hope you have a positive experience using the Forager One system at Brandeis.
