Biography: Becky Behar
Becky Behar is a photo-based artist born in Colombia and now living in the suburbs of Boston. Behar has exhibited at national and international galleries, including solo exhibitions with the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, Massachusetts), Workspace Gallery (Lincoln, Nebraska), and Concord Free Public Library (Concord, Massachusetts), where she was an Artist in Residence. This experience allowed her to tailor the exhibition to the venue and teach photography workshops for young adults. Her group exhibitions include the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts (Providence, Rhode Island), Photographic Resource Center (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Woodmere Art Museum (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), and FotoNostrum Gallery (Barcelona, Spain). Behar’s work has been featured in A Photo Editor, Float Photo Magazine, Fraction Magazine, The Boston Globe, Jewish Boston, and What Will You Remember?
Behar has received widespread recognition for her photography. She is a 2021 recipient of the 16th Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers, a 2020 Photolucida Critical Mass top 200 finalist, and a 2020 finalist for the Griffin Museum of Photography's John Chervinsky Emerging Photographer Scholarship. Behar's most recent honors include a 2022 Concord Cultural Council Grant, as part of the Mass Cultural Council Grant program, and a 2023 Combined Jewish Philanthropies Grant.
