Brandeis Leadership Peace-Building Workshop

Olajide Olagunju, a master's student in Coexistence and Conflict and founder of the World Peace Institute, conducted a workshop on November 19, 2005, designed to orient individuals toward peace and away from violence. Olagunju describes his vision for world peace as "global peace through local capacity," or developing effective conflict resolution skills from the grassroots level.

The workshop was divided into two parts: developing skills for effective intervention in conflict situations, and simple strategies that can be used for personal peace-building efforts, based on case studies.

Olagunju has been an attorney-mediator for 10 years and founded Corporate Mediators in 1995, an organization that has helped governmental agencies in Nigeria develop greater capacity to provide access to justice for the underprivileged.

The first workshop of the World Peace Institute -- held in Abuja, Nigeria, in the summer of 2004 -- was chaired by Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. The first Brandeis workshop took place on October 15, 2005. The workshop is free and open to the Brandeis community.
