IN THE SPOTLIGHT
BranVan Accessible Transport Extended Hours Pilot

In response to student requests, a pilot program that extends the hours of the BranVan Accessible Transport will be in operation for the remainder of the semester. The service will now run from 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

To use the service, please contact Elizabeth Nako, accessibility specialist for undergraduate students, or Scott Lapinski, accessibility specialist for graduate students.

New Director of Emergency Management

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Joshua Manfredo to the new position of Director of Emergency Management.

Joshua comes to Brandeis from the University of Rhode Island where he served as an Emergency Management Specialist. In his role he assisted in the establishing an emergency management office as well as establishing key programs. These programs included a comprehensive all-hazards approach to planning and response, training and education for active threats, and how to prepare for an incident. Joshua also serves as chair of the R.I. Association of Emergency Manager’s HiEd Consortium.

Joshua has more than 10 years' experience in the field of emergency management and will play a critical role in strengthening emergency preparedness for the Brandeis community. He can be reached at jpmanfredo@brandeis.edu or at ext. 6-4245.

1099s

1099s for work done in 2018 have been mailed to individuals and businesses who were paid $600 or more for specific payments which required reporting. These payments include royalties, select prizes and awards and other non employee compensation.

If you or a vendor who you have worked with, need to request a duplicate copy of a 1099 please visit our the Division of Business and Finance website.

Preventing Sexual Harassment and Title IX Workshop
Hassenfeld Conference Center, Luria Room

The workshop will provide, staff and faculty with the information and tools necessary to recognize, prevent and respond to sexual harassment and sexual assault.  The workshop will incorporate the impact of diversity on these issues and will discuss the role managers, staff and faculty have as responsible employees and will include the most recent legislative changes to Title IX.

  • Thursday, April 25, Effective Teamwork Strategies: This course teaches team members how to be more confident and work as part of a highly productive team.
  • Thursday, May 9, Conflict Resolution and Confrontation Management: This course will teach participants the insights needed to become proficient at handling conflicts.

Improved Business Writing Workshop

Learn how to create well-written email messages, memos, reports and other materials. Review ways to enhance the “readability” of your messages and tips to help make email writing faster and easier. Special focus is on seven principles of effective business writing and how to approach a writing task. The workshop will also review aspects of punctuation, grammar and word usage, participants will learn about web resources that can help you further develop your writing skills.

Important Tax and Year End Tax Document Information

The 2018 W-2s are available on Brandeis University Self Service (BUSS). Paper copies have been mailed. To ensure there are no errors on your W-2 please review your personal information, including your Social Security number, in BUSS in the W-4 section listed under the payroll and compensation tab. Please reach out to payroll@brandeis.edu should you see any errors on your W-2.

The 1042-S tax documents will be distributed by March 15, 2019. You will receive a 1042-S if you signed tax treaty paperwork in 2018 and received treaty benefits or if you are a foreign national without a tax treaty, and received a fellowship payment or stipend. If you are a foreign national and your W-2 appears to be missing wages, they may be on your 1042-S.
