The Calm Between the Storms

The exterior of Taipei's National Concert Hall, surrounded by standing puddles of fallen rain that capture the building's reflection, and with more storm clouds in the background.

Kate Ross ’22, an international and global studies major (with minors in Health: Science, Society and Policy; East Asian studies; and economics), spent last summer studying in Taiwan to perfect her Chinese. Heavy rain had soaked Taipei the evening she captured this watery reflection of the National Concert Hall, in deserted Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Park, on her iPhone 7. Moments later, she got a text from the American consulate warning of an approaching typhoon; that bout of wind and rain would shut down the city and cancel her classes, giving her a chance to catch up on sleep at home.
