In Memoriam: Alumni Classes of 1980 - 1989

Antonio Figueiredo ’82 of Cambridge, Mass., died on July 10. He leaves wife Marion; two daughters, Arlette and Monique; son Antonio; a sister, Celia ’83; and two grandchildren.

Lisa Beth Krieger ’83 of Rochester, N.Y., died on April 22. She leaves her father, Leslie; a sister, Ellen; a brother, Neil; and her beloved companion, Dennis Rowcliffe.

David Atlas ’85 of Manhasset, N.Y., died on Aug. 10. David was a successful attorney, specializing in intellectual property rights, contracts and general business issues, and also pursued a second career in photography. David developed his second vocation at Brandeis, taking pictures at concerts for the Justice. He combined his love of music with his visual skill to become an accomplished concert photographer, creating a massive archive of work that was published in magazines, books and newspapers worldwide. He spent many years as the official photographer for a Friday concert series sponsored by “The Today Show” and the Central Park Summer Stage series. “David was an intelligent, kind, funny person who will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him,” said his friend and classmate Michael Goldman ’85. “He was a devoted husband and father and a loyal friend.” David leaves his wife, Dawn; daughter Morgan; son Matthew; sister Lauren ’90; and his parents, Jonah and Joan.

Denise Connors, M.A.’85, Ph.D.’86, of Newmarket, N.H., whose nursing career spanned 40 years, died July 17 after a long illness. She worked as an intensive-care nurse in both Boston and Pittsburgh; was a nursing instructor with the Boston Public Schools; and taught nursing at Fitchburg (Mass.) State College, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Southern Maine. In recent years, she worked as a psychotherapist and staff nurse. She leaves a daughter, Rose; her life partner of 30 years, Margaret; brother Daniel; and sister Diane.

Lynne (Perlmutter) Urquiola ’89 of Newton, Mass., a graphic artist who worked as a teacher’s assistant at Auburndale Community Nursery School, died of cancer on June 11. She leaves her husband, Edward; two sons, Joe and Jake; her father, Bertram; and a brother, Michael.
