Increasing Endpoint Security Protection

ITS is continually working to protect the Brandeis community and our sensitive data by implementing improved security protocols. As part of this effort, the ITS team has chosen to introduce enSilo, a program designed to stop data breaches in real-time and automatically orchestrate incident investigation and response. In order to better secure Brandeis information against malicious activity, EnSilo will be installed on university-owned computers. More information on the timing is forthcoming.

Visit the enSilo website to learn more.

CAMPUS HAPPENINGS
Campus converting to recycled content paper
Sustainable Brandeis, Procurement and Business Services, the Staff Action Team on Climate Change, and Ricoh have collaborated over the past several months to test recycled content paper in the Ricoh multi-function printers across campus, with positive results. Over the next few weeks, WB Mason will begin delivering 30 percent recycled content paper in place of 0 percent recycled content paper. This will reduce paper-related carbon emissions by approximately 28,000 pounds per year, in addition to saving about 5,000 gallons of water and 11 tons of wood (over one acre of trees) per year.
More buildings to receive LED lighting upgrades
Based on the success of the recent Shapiro Campus Center lighting efficiency project, Brandeis is investing $2.5 million in lighting efficiency across campus in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and reach our 2020 carbon reduction goal. The first buildings to be addressed are Hassenfeld Conference Center, the Goldfarb Library, and Usdan Student Center. Additional buildings that will be considered include the Heller School, the International Business School, Carl J. Shapiro Science Center, the Village Residence Hall, and campus exterior lighting.

FRIENDLY REMINDERS
Vacation Carry-over
With the end of the calendar year approaching, it is a perfect time for employees to review their vacation balances. The University vacation policy limits balances that employees are allowed to carry-over to the next calendar year. On January 1, 2019, employees who have balances that exceed the carry-over limit will have their balances reduced. Please plan ahead and use your accrued time to avoid losing any vacation time. As always supervisors approval is required before vacation leave can be taken. Please visit the Human Resources website to view the paid time off policy.
