PUBLIC SAFETY & SECURITY
Important Summer Parking Changes: Theater Lot (T-Lot) Update

With the summer construction season approaching, we are sharing some upcoming changes to the Theater Lot (T-Lot). Starting Monday, May 18, approximately 73 parking spaces will be removed from service. Our partners at Dimeo Construction will be establishing a new drive lane and extending the construction fence line further into the lot.

Key Details for Your Planning:

  • Timeline: Changes begin May 18. Commencement parking on May 17 will not be affected.
  • Availability: While some stalls will be blocked, two parking zones (A and B on the map) will remain open all summer.
  • Access: Through-access in the lot will be maintained at all times.
  • Student Move-out: Please note that senior move-out for Ziv Quad and Ridgewood concludes after May 19.

Please refer to the diagram for a visual breakdown of the new fence lines and available spaces. We will provide updates as the project progresses, but feel free to reach out with any questions.

ESPECIALLY FOR STUDENTS
Graduating Student Employees

The last day that graduating students can work is Sunday, May 17. Graduating student employees will be automatically removed from Workday as of that day. Please make sure any hours are submitted by midnight on 05/17/26 because time entry will be lost once the employment record is inactive. Students who graduate are no longer enrolled in a course of study and cannot remain as student employees. If you know of a student employee who is continuing on into another degree program at Brandeis and should not be removed, please let Student Employment know.

Financial Aid for Summer School

Federal and/or institutional financial aid may be available to undergraduate students attending Summer School. For more information on eligibility and applications requirements, please visit the Summer Session Financial Aid webpage.

Key Federal Financial Aid Changes
Starting July 1, 2026

On July 4, 2025, the President of the United States signed into law the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) which enacted major changes to the U.S. tax code, as well as to federal programs that receive mandatory funding, such as federal student loans. We realize many undergraduate and graduate students may have concerns about how these changes might affect their ability to pay for college after July 1, 2026. Our FAQ's page answers many of these questions, and will be updated as more information becomes available.

An e-mail detailing the renewal process are being sent to students and parents this week. If you would like to meet with your financial aid counselor to discuss the renewal financial aid process, you may book a 30-minute appointment online.

The Brandeis Emergency Fund

The Brandeis Emergency Fund was created to assist currently active, high-need undergraduate and graduate students experiencing some kind of unexpected financial emergency when other resources are not available. The Fund focuses its limited resources on students with high demonstrated financial need (students with an EFC of approximately $20,000 or below, as determined by a financial aid application) who are experiencing unexpected financial emergencies for which no other funds are available. For information about eligibility criteria, examples of what can and cannot be considered, and the process by which to apply for emergency funds, please visit the Brandeis Emergency Fund website.

CAMPUS HAPPENINGS
Brandeis National Committee

Many Brandeis National Committee members may be retired, but they don't do rocking chairs. Since 1948, the Brandeis National Committee (BNC) and its local chapters have supported Brandeis University through philanthropy, learning, and community.

Women and men all over the country join BNC to make friends and support this valuable mission. Attend a literary luncheon with a best-selling author. Join a hiking group, a current events discussion, or a theater outing. BNC’s member-led study groups use Brandeis syllabi to learn about history, legal affairs, literature, and more. There is a study group to fit everyone’s interest.

New members who join in May receive an extra two months on their annual membership; join in June for one extra month.

Religious Holidays

Brandeis is rich with religious diversity. Holidays celebrated by the Brandeis community during the month of May include:

  • Vesak, also known as Buddha's Day, is a Buddhist festival that will be celebrated during the month of May this year. On Vesak, Buddhists often visit temples to renew vows and precepts, studying, praying, and gathering in community. The timing and focus of this holiday varies across cultures and traditions of Buddhism. In Theravada communities in South and Southeast Asia, Vesak is a celebration of Buddha's Birth, Enlightenment, and Extinguishment, which takes place on the day of the full moon. In several East Asian countries, the birth, death, and enlightenment are observed on separate dates. In these countries, this time of year marks the celebration of the birth of the Buddha.
  • Pentecost (May 24) takes place 50 days after Easter. It celebrates the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit on the community after Jesus ascended into heaven. The story from the Acts of the Apostles describes this gift of the Spirit as a moment that unites all peoples. While the early followers of Jesus were from different places around the Mediterranean, spoke different languages and had different cultures, the Spirit made them one people. It is, in a sense, the "birthday" of the church.

For more information on these and other holidays, visit the Center for Spiritual Life's Guide to Religious Observances. Did we miss a spiritual observance that is important to you? Please reach out to slife@brandeis.edu.
