Undergraduate Student Exchange
The exchange of students to foster mutual understanding is a key goal of the partnership. With that goal in mind, the two universities constructed a summer seminar program, the Brandeis-Al-Quds Summer Institute. The program matches eight Al-Quds students with eight Brandeis students for 10 days in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Participants room with a student from the partner university, explore the city together using Istanbul as a historical and living "text" and study together in an afternoon joint seminar. The theme of the program, "What is a good society?", allows for an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural study of philosophical and literary texts as well as lively discussion. That theme was continued in May 2009, when selected Brandeis students who participated in the 2007 & 2008 programs visited their peers at Al-Quds University.
