Undergraduate Student Exchange
The exchange of students to foster mutual understanding was a key goal of the partnership. With that goal in mind, the two universities constructed a summer seminar program, the Brandeis-Al-Quds Summer Institute.
The program matched eight Al-Quds students with eight Brandeis students for 10 days in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Participants room with a student from the partner university, explored the city together using Istanbul as a historical and living "text" and study together in an afternoon joint seminar. The theme of the program, "What is a good society?", allowed for an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural study of philosophical and literary texts as well as lively discussion. That theme was continued in May 2009, when selected Brandeis students who participated in the 2007 and 2008 programs visited their peers at Al-Quds University.
