IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Crosswalk Safety

Community members are encouraged to either use the Squire Bridge or the Linsey Pool/South Street crosswalk when crossing South Street in this area. When using the crosswalk, PLEASE activate the flashing lights and LOOK carefully in both directions before walking into the crosswalk. The blinking yellow lights will activate once you push the button. These lights are designed to alert oncoming traffic that pedestrians will be crossing.

Please be sure to wait for approaching vehicles to completely stop before entering the crosswalk to cross the street. After dark, wear light - colored or reflective clothing that allows you to stand out on a dark background so that drivers may see you.

Be aware that foul weather, particularly rain or snow after dark, limit's a driver's ability to see you. Be aware that distractions while crossing streets can result in tragedy. Don't talk or text on your phone, don't listen to music with headphones on, etc.

The safe actions that you initiate may prevent an accident from occurring.

Please refer questions or concerns to Ed Callahan at ecallaha@brandeis.edu.

Starr Plaza and Fellows Garden Renovations

The renovations to Starr Plaza and Fellows Garden are complete. The Starr Plaza renovation was an important step in improving accessibility to the central administration building. The Fellow Garden work was done to repair the area disturbed by the August 2018 steam line break. Both renovations not only provide functionality but  also enhanced the beauty of the campus. Photos of the renovations can be viewed here.

PARKING CHANGES
2019 Business, Consulting & Finance Fair
Thursday, Sept. 12

On Thursday, September 12, 2019, the Hiatt Career Center, Brandeis Business Program, and Department of Economics are sponsoring Brandeis University's 2019 Business, Consulting & Finance Fair in Sherman Function Hall (Hassenfeld Conference Center) from 12-3 p.m. Representatives for 25+ employers will be on campus looking to speak to students to hire Brandeisans for full-time and part-time jobs and internships.

Accordingly, please be aware that there will be additional vehicular and pedestrian traffic on campus on Thursday, September 12.

In order to provide a welcoming arrival to employers and to enhance the experience for our students seeking jobs and internships the following one day parking changes will be in effect.

Employers attending the Business, Consulting & Finance Fair will be directed to park within a defined number of reserved parking spaces at the following locations: Hassenfeld Lot, Spingold Circle, and Rose Circle. Parking Monitors will be on duty to assist employer guests as well as to direct Brandeis Community members to alternate parking areas should they be displaced by the one-day parking changes.

On behalf of the Department of Public Safety we ask for the patience and cooperation of the University Community as these changes are necessary to ensure employers attending the fair are welcomed properly to our campus.

Please direct any questions or concerns related to this matter to my attention at either extension 6-4240 or by email to ecallaha@brandeis.edu.

VolunteerFest: A Day of Service for Brandeis and the Waltham Community
Saturday, Aug. 31
Noon-2 p.m.
Hassenfeld Conference Center

This year for the first time, the Departments of Community Service and Orientation are hosting a day of service on campus for both Brandeis and the Waltham community called VolunteerFest. In the spirit of this event being open and inclusive to our Brandeis and Waltham communities, we would like to invite any interested staff and faculty to join in VolunteerFest Saturday, August 31 from noon-2 p.m. in the Hassenfeld Conference Center. This is an opportunity for first-year Brandeis students and the Waltham community to come together and engage in volunteer projects in partnership with local organizations that meet a real need in our community. Activities include writing cards for seniors, making bracelets and no-sew blankets for kids, creating hygiene kits and writing letters to your representatives, among other projects. Through this event, the Brandeis community will have an opportunity to directly and meaningfully connect with Waltham community members and local nonprofits, as well as gain a better understanding of the needs of our community and discover meaningful ways to get involved. There will also be lunch, kid-friendly activities, face painting, a photo booth, carnival food, and prizes for all to enjoy.

To attend VolunteerFest, please RSVP here: bit.ly/volunteerfest2019
