IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Change to Remote Access to On Campus Workstations
Aug. 1

Beginning August 1, Information Technology Services will require off-campus faculty, staff, and students to use Pulse Secure to remotely access on-campus Windows, Mac, and Linux services and workstations. This change will specifically affect Remote Desktop and SSH protocols. This step is being taken to comply with audit findings from the University’s cyber insurance carrier as well as commitments to the Board of Trustee’s Risk Management & Audit committee and guidance from our external security consults. If you need assistance connecting to the Brandeis VPN Service, please visit https://www.brandeis.edu/its/services/network-connectivity/vpn.html or contact the Brandeis Help Desk by sending an email to help@brandeis.edu, or calling 781-736-4357 for more information.

Underground Steam Line Repairs
Now - August

Beginning this week and continuing into August, underground steam line repairs will be taking place along Loop Road.

On upper-campus, work will take place between Rabb and Mandel. Work will not block the Loop Road but please be mindful of construction vehicles as they will pull in and out of traffic lanes from time to time.

On lower campus, work will take place from the loading dock of Sherman Dining hall uphill towards the front of Rose Art Museum. At times, throughout the summer, the roadway in this area may be reduced to a single lane of travel. Access to Hassenfeld parking will remain open, but please drive with caution in this stretch of roadway. Expect to see construction vehicles and workers in this area, particularly behind the Faculty club.

Please use caution around these construction areas while you travel the campus. If you have any questions, please email Michael McGarry.

Changes to Windows Updates for ITS-Managed Computers
June 20

On Monday, June 20, ITS will begin a new method to update Windows software on ITS-managed computers. This new update method will be accompanied by a pop-up message giving the user the option to "snooze" the installation for a limited amount of time in the event that it is not a convenient time. The update will eventually install on its own once the max number of delays has been reached. This new approach to updates will prevent ITS-managed computers from falling behind in security updates, as many have done over the past two years. Users may see a pop up in the bottom right of their screen informing them they have updates pending. There will be two options to select: Ok (installs the updates) and Snooze (allows the user to select a time between 15 minutes and 2 hours to delay the install). After the update installs, users will need to reboot, but will also have the ability to snooze the reboot if it's not a convenient time.

Brandeis Magazine
July

An ongoing paper shortage prevents us from distributing the Summer 2022 issue of Brandeis Magazine to our entire mailing list. As a result, all faculty and staff — including those who, through Workday, have opted to receive the magazine’s print edition — will be sent an email with a link to the magazine’s digital edition when it goes live in July. We hope to be able to restore your preference for how you receive the magazine with the next issue. We apologize for the disruption, and we thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please email magazine@brandeis.edu.
