In 2023, Dmitry Troyanovsky ’98, associate professor of theater arts, directed a cast of Brandeis student actors in a Laurie Theater production of “Stupid F##king Bird,” a loose adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull.”

How does the Ukraine native choose his projects? “I want to do something that wouldn’t otherwise be seen, that my students wouldn’t be able to see, and something that, frankly, I wouldn’t be able to work on outside of Brandeis,” he says.

Read “Theater Matters” and learn more about Troyanovsky’s productions — gutsy explorations of art, politics, and emotional truth — and his approach to theater.
