Global terrorism class to get visit from American Islamic Congress

Nasser Weddady to speak on American Muslims and post-9/11 civil liberties

The civil rights outreach director for the American Islamic Congress will visit Professor Jytte Klausen's course, “The War on Global Terrorism.”

Nasser Weddady, a native of Mauritania who grew up in Libya and Syria, will speak to the class April 9 from 2 to 3:20 p.m. on American Muslims and civil liberties after 9/11. The talk will be held in the Mandel Center for Humanities, Room G03. It is open to the campus community.
Weddady was falsely detained by the FBI a few days after the Sept. 11 attacks because of his ethnic appearance. He has organized conferences for young activists across the Middle East that offer them leadership skills to pursue their own human and civil rights campaigns. As one of the few activists working in the MENA region as well as in the United States, Weddady has developed a unique perspective on the global struggle for human and civil rights. 

He has been published in the International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe and Baltimore Sun; appeared on FOX’s “Hannity & Colmes,” “BBC World Service, Al Jazeera and Radio Liberty; and testified to Congress’ Human Rights Caucus; and lectured at the U.S Institute of Peace and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
