Professor Nader Habibi weighs in on Iranian economic crisis

Professor Nader Habibi, the Crown Center’s Henry J. Leir Professor of the Economics of the Middle East and a senior lecturer in the Economics Department, offered his thoughts on the economic crisis in Iran to the German news site Die Welt.

According to Habibi, the current economic crisis is a product of both sanctions and bad policies. Outgoing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s economic policies were inconsistent and contradictory and in his last years he lost the support of of Majlis. Habibi says he believes improving relationships with The West is an important pre-requisite to improving Iran’s economy.
