Video: What it's like to intern on a whale watch boat

Kate Laemmle '20 hits the high seas as an intern at New England Aquarium

TRANSCRIPT

This summer, Kate Laemmle '20 made some new friends: Etch-A-Sketch, Sprinkles, Owl and Shuffleboard to name a few — and they're all humpback whales.

She visits them almost everyday in the Stellwagen Bank Region, a two-hour trip from Boston Harbor aboard the Cetacea, one of the New England Aquarium's Whale Watch vessels. Laemmle is dedicating her time to mammal research by contributing to field data, educating others about the importance of ocean conservation, and getting up close and personal with a whole lot of whales.
