The Brandeis University Board of Trustees has elected marketing executive Monique L. Nelson as a new member.

“Monique Nelson is an accomplished leader in the field of marketing who will bring invaluable perspective and expertise to the Board of Trustees,” said Brandeis University President Ron Liebowitz. “On behalf of Brandeis, I welcome her to our university’s community.”

Since 2012, Nelson has served as chair and chief executive officer of UWG, the country’s longest-standing multicultural marketing agency whose clients include Ford Motor Company, ColgatePalmolive, The Home Depot, Bacardi U.S., Coca-Cola, and the U.S. Marines. She sits on the Advertising Week Global Board, AdWeek Diversity & Inclusion Council, The Eagle Academy Board, as well as the New York Advisory Board for The Posse Foundation, of which she is an alumna. She is also a member of the Brooklyn Chapter of Links, Inc., the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organization of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

In 2016, Nelson received the Power of Women to Make a Difference Award from the United Way of New York City's Women's Leadership Council. Her other distinguished honors include The Network Journal’s 25 Influential Black Women Under Forty, Ad Age's 40 Under 40, and the 2015 Advertising Working Mothers of the Year.

Nelson has an MBA in international marketing and finance from Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University and a bachelor's degree in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt University. She was elected to a four-year term during a board meeting Sept. 17.

“Monique Nelson is a highly respected executive with a longstanding dedication to service,” said Board Chair Meyer Koplow. “I know the board will benefit greatly from her contributions and I am looking forward to working with her.”
