Political philosopher Michael Walzer, H’81, wrote “In God’s Shadow: Politics in the Hebrew Bible.” In it, he looks to the Bible’s various books for answers to such questions as “How is political society conceived?” “How should political power be used?” “When is it right to go to war?” “What are the obligations of ordinary citizens or subjects?” A professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study, he is co-editor of Dissent, a quarterly magazine of politics and culture that he has been affiliated with since his years at Brandeis.
