Those within the education space know that there's no shortage of data when it comes to the learning experience. Student assessments, performance data and curricula analyses are just the tip of the iceberg for the administrators, instructional designers and researchers who seek to translate educational data into meaningful, strategic recommendations.

As a student in the Brandeis GPS Learning Analytics program, you'll learn alongside working professionals looking to advance their careers along with their educational goals. The program will equip you to:

  • Inform instructional approaches through the analysis of large sets of learning data.
  • Apply business intelligence principles and strategic analytics to improve student performance and retention.
  • Evaluate legal and ethical implications of using educational data.

The 15-credit part-time, online post-graduate certificate consists of four required courses and one elective option. Please note that applicants must have at least a master's degree in a related field.

Please note that we are not currently accepting applications for the Graduate Certificate in Learning Analytics for the 2020-2021 academic year.


Part-time, fully online, financially accessible

The Graduate Certificate in Learning Analytics is a 15-credit, five-course program designed to be completed in 1.5 years or less.

Required courses include:

  • Digital Ethics & the Legal Landscape of Instructional Design
  • Learning Analytics
  • Business Intelligence, Analytics and Decision Making
  • Statistics and Data Analysis

Electives include:

  • Marketing and Customer Analytics
  • Managing Instructional Design Projects

Learn more about some of our Learning Analytics faculty

  • Jing Qi, EdD is the Learning Analytic Lead and LMS Specialist at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where she works with the Research ITC team, and applies technologies employed in advanced scientific research and web application development to support the core effort of 'Learning Data Research.' Combining her solid knowledge in computer science, extensive experience in data mining, and strong passion in data visualization, she integrates the core elements of data analysis and visualization in the exploration of Learning Analytics. 
  • Ross Morrone, MS, MCIS is the Director of Marketing at Youngstown State University. He has over 10 years of experience in marketing, advertising, web design, analytic analysis and multimedia production.
  • Valerie Smedile Rifkin, MA is currently serving as an Instructional Designer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She holds a BA in Anthropology and Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, an MA in Anthropology and an MS in Instructional Design and Technology, all from Brandeis University. Valerie has over 13 years of experience in higher education administration, most recently in Instructional Design.
