Heller MBA students win SAGE scholarships
Leadership, commitment to social justice, and academic performance make winning formula
SAGE Publications, in collaboration with the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, has recently announced the new 2008 SAGE Scholars. Current MBA candidate Ondrea Austin, MBA '09, and incoming MBA student Jessica Ratey, MBA '10, will each receive tuition assistance as part of the SAGE Scholarship program.
The SAGE scholars are selected for their leadership ability, commitment to social justice, and academic performance in the MBA program. The Heller School represents a singular vision in graduate education—a blend of academic rigor and an enduring commitment to social justice, and the chosen scholars exemplify that commitment.
Current Student Scholarship Winner: Ondrea Austin, MBA '09
Prior to enrolling in the MBA program, Ondrea spent five years working to alleviate poverty and strengthen communities in the US and Latin America. Upon graduation, she plans to assume a management position with an international organization working to promote social and economic development in Latin America. Ondrea's experience includes serving in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica where she taught women how to create income-generating projects. Ondrea holds a bachelor's degree in Management Science from the University of California, San Diego.
Incoming Student Scholarship Winner: Jessica Ratey, MBA '10
Jessica has spent three years as the executive director for English for Action, a nonprofit organization. She has worked for small community-based organizations and mission-driven family foundations whose programs and grant-making spanned areas from public education to progressive national tax policy to international peace advocacy. Jessica holds a degree in Literature/English from Brown University.

The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University was founded in 1959 to generate knowledge to advance social justice. Over 400 students are enrolled at the School and its graduates hold leadership positions in such areas as health, aging, disabilities, poverty alleviation, and children, youth, and families. Graduates work in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors in these fields around the world, making significant contributions for positive social change. The Heller School offers five degree programs: a PhD in social policy, a Master of Public Policy in social policy, the Heller MBA in Nonprofit Management, a Master of Arts in Sustainable International Development, and a Master of Science in International Health Policy and Management. In 2007, the Heller School was rated by U.S. News and World Report in the number three spot for graduate schools of Social Policy.
