The next installment of the Brandeis Meet the Artist series, a partnership between Film and Visual Media Studies chair Alice Kelikian and film industry analyst and Brandeis alum Scott Feinberg, will feature Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh's new film, "The Girlfriend Experience.” A Q&A session with the movie’s lead actress, Sasha Grey, will follow the screening.

Grey, 21, is among the most popular stars in the adult film industry. She recently began venturing into mainstream productions, and her natural talent so impressed Soderbergh that he cast her in this drama about the life of a $2000-an-hour sex escort.
"The Girlfriend Experience," which was met with critical acclaim following a test screening at the Sundance Film Festival in January, will have its official premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 29, and will then be screened and discussed the following night at Brandeis.

“Steven Soderbergh is one of the most respected and prolific directors and producers working today,” Kelikian said, “and his oeuvre includes all sorts of genres from commercial and art house to low-budget and experimental cinema. I am thrilled that Brandeis is welcoming his latest film just one day after its world premiere at Tribeca.”

Feinberg will moderate the Q&A session. Feinberg and Kelikian have teamed up for all of the Meet the Artist events held on the Brandeis campus this year, which have featured appearances by Richard Jenkins, Melissa Leo, Michael Shannon, Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda and Mark Ruffalo.

“We're delighted to be hosting not only one of the year's most buzzed-about films, but also its star, whose performance and unique career path should provide for a fascinating discussion,” Feinberg said. “The primary goal of our series has been to bring filmmakers of all sorts and backgrounds to campus so that students can learn from their successes and failures. Our guests, thus far, have included four Oscar nominees, one ex-con, and one ‘sexiest woman in the world.’ Each one of them has shared unique and valuable insights with students, as will Ms. Grey.”

The April 30 screening of “The Girlfriend Experience” will begin at 7 p.m. in the Edie and Lew Wasserman Cinematheque (inside the Sachar International Center), 415 South Street, Waltham, Mass. The screening is sponsored by Film and Visual Media Studies and the Edie and Lew Wasserman Fund.
