Latest Crown Center brief considers 'Jihadi Revisionism'

In the most recent Middle East Brief published by the Crown Center for Middle East Studies, Khalil Al-Anani, Assistant to the Managing Editor of al-Siyassa al-Dawliya in Cairo and a former visiting fellow at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, focuses on “Jihadi Revisionism.” As groups like al-Qaeda step up their acts of violence and terrorism, this brief looks at how revisionist efforts, which aims to minimize extremist or militant understandings of sacred texts, gain steam in the region. Khalil Al-Anani analyzes one case of such jihadi revisionism: Sayyid Imam al-Sharif's important document renouncing his own influential manifesto, and the response of jihadis, particularly that of Ayman al-Zawahiri, to it.
