Crown Center event to explore radical Islamism in Saudi Arabia

Thomas Hegghammer

Why were 15 of the Sept. 11 hijackers from Saudi Arabia? Seven years later, what do we know about radical Islamism in Saudi Arabia?

These and related questions will be addressed at a brown-bag lunch on Feb. 25 sponsored by the Crown Center for Middle East Studies in room 163 of the Heller building. The event will run from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. and will feature Dr. Thomas Hegghammer, a research fellow at the Initiative on Religion in International Affairs of Harvard University’s International Security Program.

Based on extensive fieldwork in the Kingdom and biographies of 800 Saudi militants, Hegghammer's presentation will offer new findings on the causes and dynamics of jihadism in Saudi Arabia.

Bring your lunch; refreshments will be provided.
