The Messiah Sing warms the holiday season

Story of a cherished Brandeis tradition told in pictures by university photographer Mike Lovett

Messiah Sing, a beloved Brandeis tradition, returned to the Shapiro Campus Center atrium on Wednesday, Dec.  8.

Hundreds of members of the community, family and friends packed the floor and staircases of the soaring space to celebrate the holiday season with the sing-along concert of Handel’s masterwork.

The concert featured members of the Brandeis-Wellesley Orchestra conducted by Neal Hampton, and the Brandeis Chorus under the direction of James Olesen.

The event was sponsored by the Music Department and the Office of the Arts in cooperation with the Catholic Students Association.

The Waltham Group, the university's volunteer community service organization, collected books and non-perishable food items for local food banks and shelters, while Dining Services staff collected donations for Toys for Tots.

After the concert, a Christmas tree was decorated and a hanukkiah was lit in observance of the final night of Hanukkah.
