Mela "Fair" to feature South Asian culture

Mela -- "fair" in Hindi -- an annual performance promoting understanding and awareness of South Asian culture, will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, in Levin Ballroom from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event features cultural performances from countries that are part of South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The show includes dance, music, spoken word and other performances. This year's theme is 'My Life is Desi,' which will highlight the friendship between an immigrant Indian and an Indian-American.

Mela is the South Asian Students Association's annual production, and is co-sponsored this year by the Brandeis Pluralism Alliance. Tickets will be sold through Nov. 19 for $5 and may also be purchased at the door. The dance will be held after the show in Shapiro Campus Center, beginning 10 p.m.
