Brandeis Black Student Organization holding annual 'Black Is' week

The Brandeis Black Student Organization is holding its annual “Black Is” week from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8, its largest fall semester event.

Monday, the Brandeis Pluralism Alliance, BBSO, and Hillel co-sponsored a discussion on black- Jewish relations between Professor Ibrahim Sundiata and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and journalist Jonathan Kaufman.

Tonight at 7:30, the BBSO is hosting an Election Night Watch Party with the Men of Color Alliance and Women of Color Alliance in the main lounge of the Intercultural Center.

Wednesday night at 7:30, at the regularly scheduled general meeting of the club, there will be a discussion of the election results on the third floor of the Shapiro Campus Center.

Finally, on Thursday, BBSO will sponsor a panel discussion on “Blackness and Higher Education.” Invited panelists are Professor Jerry Cohen, Dean Jamele Adams, Department Coordinator of the Intercultural Center Taneeta Bacon, Professor Eileen McNamara, Professor Chad Williams, Professor Tanya Brown and Professor Colin Channer.

“This week is designed to bring all the power, shades, meanings, and societal implications of blackness to the forefront of campus culture, as well as contributing to campus diversity and inclusiveness,” says Malika Imhotep ’15, co-president of BBSO.
