The Summer 2020 issue of Brandeis Magazine out now

The Summer 2020 issue of Brandeis Magazine is out now. The edition features:
- “Responding to the Pandemic,” a round-up story on all the ways the university’s faculty, students, alumni and staff have responded to the Covid-19 pandemic.
- A feature exploring historian Abigail Cooper’s research on how African Americans living in Civil War-era refugee camps imagined — and constructed — their futures after slavery.
- “The Darkness at the End of the Tunnel,” a story about physicist Bjoern Penning and his lab’s collaboration on a state-of-the-art experiment a mile underground, to unlock the stubborn mysteries of dark matter.
- A Q and A with emeritus professor Stephen J. Whitfield, PhD’72, on his new book about Brandeis faculty members who helped protect and advance liberalism in the U.S. from the late 1940s to the early ’70s.
The issue also includes Class Notes, faculty and staff book reviews, Ron Liebowitz’s letter to the community and much more.
