Each year, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) honors a group of outstanding teaching fellows. This year, Susan Birren, the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Eric Chasalow, the Dean of GSAS, presented the awards at a reception in the Mandel Center on May 7.  The graduate students who receive the awards represent the best student educators at GSAS – those who have made impressive contributions to the Brandeis community. Recipients are selected by their academic departments and programs in the spring semester.

During her speech, Dr. Birren highlighted Brandeis’ focuses on teaching and pedagogy in its doctoral programs, and expressed her gratitude to the award winners who excelled in these areas. Dr. Chasalow was similarly impressed, admitting that the question usually resonating in his mind as a graduate teaching fellow was, “What am I doing here?”
