Current research
My research focuses on religion in contemporary American culture. I am writing a book, to be titled "Paging God: Religion in the Halls of Medicine," about religion and spirituality in hospitals. I am also working on projects about religion in the lives of immigrants to small American cities and about religious leaders’ opinions about homosexuality.

Favorite classroom experience
Brandeis students’ continued curiosity and probing questions make them a pleasure to teach. My favorite classroom experiences are those in which students are investigating their worlds — asking questions about religious identity or sexuality on campus — and engaging their fellow students in discussions about their findings.

What makes Brandeis special
The students.

Last book read for pleasure
"The Inheritance of Loss" by Kiran Desai.

Favorite world city to visit
I love to travel and will visit almost any city. I have lived in Scotland and Sri Lanka. Chihuahua, Mexico, was the last major city I spent time visiting.
