Brandeis answers the call to serve

University is selected as one of six Federal Advisor Training sites

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University is helping to lead the recruitment of a new generation of United States federal employees. Working in conjunction with the Partnership for Public Service, the U.S. Department of Personnel Management and National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Brandeis was selected as one of six “Call to Serve” Federal Advisor Training sites nationwide for the 2009-10 academic year.

The Call to Serve initiative is a collaboration of more than 670 colleges and universities, and more than 75 federal agencies that are committed to promoting federal service on campuses across the country.

On August 12, the Hiatt Career Center at Brandeis will host the Northeast Federal Advisor Training. The regional series of trainings prepares advisors at colleges and universities to both counsel students and alumni about, and guide them towards, federal careers. Representatives from institutions of higher learning from six states will take part in the training.

"We are excited to have Brandeis University kick-off our college campus federal advisor trainings for the 2009-2010 year," said Tim McManus, Partnership for Public Service vice president of Education and Outreach. "Brandeis is a leader in our Call to Serve network and has a solid mission-match with our efforts to promote federal service."

Although many schools are committed to public service, Brandeis is unique in that the pursuit of service is a founding pillar of the university and continues to be a cornerstone that touches upon all aspects of the university’s strategic planning, including the career office.

“We’re looking forward to hosting our colleagues from other regional institutions, and working together to promote service in a way that helps students and the country by providing a tangible response to the economic downturn,“ said Hiatt Career Center director Joe DuPont.
