RootsUprising
RootsUprising is a Boston-based dance company. Its modern dance performance, Dancing Beloved, is based on the words of Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved. Dancing Beloved is choreographed by Nailah Bellinger, a faculty member at Dean College School of Dance in Franklin, Massachusetts. Bellinger has also served on the dance panel for the National Endowment for the Arts and has taught Master Classes for the American Dance Awards and Dance Masters of America national conventions. Bellinger has a B.A. in Franco African literature and an M.A. in Dance History/African American Literature. She has researched, performed and lectured throughout the world, including in Brazil, Ghana, West Africa, Paris and Prague. Bellinger is also founder and director of the California-based Ebony Jazzettes.
