June 7-9, 2013

Laura Kaufman, a dentist in Needham, Mass., was featured in a recent New York Times article about her involvement with a new federally financed fellowship program in geriatric dentistry at Boston Medical Center. According to the newspaper, the program for geriatric medicine, dentistry and mental health is one way that health care professionals can gain specific knowledge and training to recognize and provide comprehensive care for the growing number of people 65 and older. Rather than treating patients in her office, Laura cleans teeth, does simple extractions and provides other basic care in the homes of inner-city elderly who are too frail to travel.
