Heller School for Social Policy and Management
The Irving Schneider and Family Building

Construction is now complete for The Irving Schneider and Family Building, an additional building for the Heller School for Social Policy and Management. This project was approved by the Brandeis University Board of Trustees in October 2003, and construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony on May 26, 2005. The Heller School moved into the new building in October 2006.
Bond Brothers, Inc. provided construction management services for The Irving Schneider and Family Building Project. The building is clad in brick, glass, and stucco, with multiple "green screens". Interiors are furnished in University-standard Herman Miller office furniture as well as classroom.
Designed by Kyu Sung Woo architects, the Schneider building has added 34,340 square feet of programmatic space for the Heller School, including classrooms, offices, and the Zinner Forum, a three-story central space that provides a prime venue for lectures, presentations and events. The Forum also includes a cafe, and several levels have grouped lounge seating. The Irving Schneider and Family Building has been designed with a focus on sustainable (i.e., environmentally responsible) design (a summary of these design elements is available), accessibility for all users, and appropriate technology in support of teaching, learning and research at the Heller School.
The project cost has been funded by a $15M gift from Irving Schneider and other gifts. The balance of the generous Schneider gift has been allocated to endowment to support the annual costs associated with the new building.
