East Quad Renovation Proposal

This preliminary sketch suggests an alternative layout for the north wing of East Quad. Areas of former corridors, restrooms and lounges are redistributed to form residential suites, which consist of living rooms, single- or double- bedrooms, and private restrooms. Each set of stairs serves 12 to 16 students.
Note: This exercise is meant only as a case study to test alternative ways to renovate and improve existing residences. The feasibility of any alternative plan must include considerations of: the availability of other residential units to allow a reduction of beds; student preferences; administrative and educational policy, especially with regard to the needs of freshman; compliance with applicable building codes; costs of construction; and structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing constraints of the existing building.
