Brandeis International Business School

Yunqiu (Julie) Li, MSBA’19: Harnessing data to drive growth

Julie LiWhat led you to the Brandeis MSBA program?

Before Brandeis, most of my experience was in the financial services industry. Global financial markets are evolving with big data and FinTech such as blockchain, and I wanted to increase my expertise in data analytics. I was looking at analytics-related master’s programs and was attracted by the rigorous finance and economics curriculum, the renowned faculty and access to global networks at Brandeis International Business School.

What have been some highlights of your time at Brandeis?

Helping organize the first-ever data analytics competition as vice president of the Data Analytics Club was a great experience, and the Industry Treks were also memorable. On the Boston trek we visited HubSpot and Fidelity, and it was great to connect with alumni there and learn how analytics is being applied in the finance and technology industry to make more informed decisions.

Another memorable part of my Brandeis experience was the Alumni-Student Mentoring Program. My alumni mentor, Stephan Granitz, gave me a lot of guidance and support during my internship and job search.

How has the MSBA program helped sharpen your career goals?

The program has helped give me a clearer picture of how the finance and data fields intersect. I learned how technology companies harness data to drive growth by attending the Careers in Analytics panel and working as a business analyst intern at Juniper Network. I think these experiences will help me achieve my goal of working as a business analyst or data analyst in the technology or financial services industry.
