Student Fellowship Waiver Policy
PhD student admission packages guarantee a level of financial support for a set number of years as defined in the student’s original letters of admission and financial support from the graduate school into which they were admitted. This package is intended to offset living expenses for a student, while that student is engaged in full-time study and degree progress.
When a student obtains outside employment that is compensated at or above their monthly support package, the student has two options.
- The first option is to take a leave of absence for up to two semesters (per the University LOA policy) which will pause their time to degree and funding package.
- The second option is to remain enrolled by registering for the appropriate internship courses. In that case, Brandeis will ask the student to waive their support package for the duration of that employment (typically in semester-long increments).
