Class of 1954

Bernard Bossom asks, “Are there any classmates out there from the Class of 1954?”

Longtime public-school teacher Nina Doerfler Drooker takes art history classes at Hunter College. She also exhibits and sells the paintings she creates. She is still in touch with one of her best friends from her Brandeis years, Lucy DeVries Duffy ’55.

Sydney Rose Abend writes that she and Norman enjoyed a weekend in Atherton, California, with Jeanette and Ike Goodman. The two couples celebrated the Goodmans’ 70th anniversary, Sydney’s 92nd birthday and the birth of the Abends’ sixth great-grandchild (who arrived on Sydney’s birthday).

Class of 1955

John Howard writes, “My best wishes to my classmates. I stay busy writing, walking and cheering on the younger generation as they fight for a better world.”

David Kline has welcomed his 90th birthday. “I still remember when there was mud at Brandeis,” he reports. “And apple trees. And walls, here and there. And Ford Hall. And Leonard Bernstein. And Ralph Norman. And lobster in biology and scrod in the cafeteria. Still teaching Torah on Shabbat mornings. Life is good.”

Janet Hentoff Krauss celebrated her 90th birthday in July 2025 with family and friends. Writing and talking about poetry is necessary for her to understand life and nature, she says.

Moriel Weiselberg attended the wedding of one of her grandsons and his childhood sweetheart at a Hudson River mansion on May 25, 2025. The occasion, she says, “was merry and filled with hours of happy dancing. May their marriage follow suit.”

Class of 1958

Arline Rotman gets together every few weeks with a group of classmates via Zoom. Participants include Jeanne Bodin; Riva Edelman; Mimi Goldman; Lenore Sack, P’87; Shelley Selig; and Elise Weisbach, G’13. “There is no other group I feel as connected to as my Brandeis friends,” Arline writes. “Several of them were even bridesmaids at my wedding in 1959.”

Class of 1959

During August and September 2025, bassist Chuck Israels performed in Vienna; Tallinn, Estonia; Helsinki; and Brussels, and gave a lecture/performance at the Arts Club in London.
