Topographic Slope Analysis
This diagram by Carol R.
Johnson Associates, the landscape planning firm on our Campus
Master Planning Team, identifies illustrates the steepness of the existing
slopes throughout the campus. These slopes have a direct bearing
on handicap accessibility issues as defined by ADA guidelines.
The yellow represents areas with a 1-5% slope, orange represents areas with a
5-8% slope, and red areas with a slope over 8%. Walking on less than a 5%
slope is acceptable, walking on a slope between 5-8% would be considered
walking on a ramp and would require handrails; and walking on a slope
greater than 8% exceeds recommended guidelines (such areas would not be
considered accessible).
