Update on overnight incident

Message to Brandeis community, sent Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017

Last night, the Brandeis Department of Public Safety received a report of an armed robbery in East Quad. Campus Police immediately responded to the location and the campus was placed on lockdown. Upon responding to the scene, police learned that two non-community members had entered a student room, one threatened three students in the room with a gun, and then both fled campus. No one was hurt, and based on the initial investigation it appears this was not a random incident.

Campus and Waltham Police thoroughly searched the campus and surrounding area and found no suspects. At about 2 a.m., law enforcement determined that there was no further danger to campus and the lockdown was lifted. Police are continuing to investigate this incident but there is no indication of any continuing risk to our community; campus has resumed normal operations.

Campus Police will be reviewing residence hall safety protocols in light of this incident.
