Flu Tips
Symptoms of the flu include:
- Fever (101° – 104°), lasting 3 – 5 days
- Headache, severe muscle and joint aches
- Sore throat
- Tiredness, can be extreme and last 2 weeks or more
- Dry cough
- Runny or stuffy nose
What to do if you have flu symptoms:
- Rest in bed
- Drink lots of fluids (water or juice)
- Take non-aspirin pain relievers to reduce fever and pain (Never give aspirin to children or teens with fever - they can get a serious disease called Reye syndrome.)
- Stay home and avoid public activities for at least 5 days (7 days for children), so that you don’t pass the flu to other people
Flu Update 9-25
With the long weekend and the holiday some students will be traveling this weekend. Remember to wash hands frequently and use hand sanitizer as needed. If you become ill at home, we ask that you remain there till you are fever free and feel well.
Please contact the Brandeis Health Center to let them know of your case. The Brandeis Health Center will be open on Yom Kippur from 8AM-4:30PM.
If you have not yet had symptoms of the flu, be prepared in case you do. Make sure you have a digital thermometer, anti-fever medicine like Tylenol or ibuprofen, and extra fluids in your dorm room or apartment.
Flu vaccination is an effective means of avoiding influenza and will protect you and the rest of the community. We will be notifying students when the next shipment of our seasonal flu vaccine arrives. H1N1 flu vaccine is still projected to be available starting in mid to late October. You will be notified via email as to location, date and time.
